My common-sense approach to "getting fit" is two-fold... the first part is HEALTHY EATING (no fad dieting, no fasts, etc.) and the second part is EXERCISE - this includes strength training combined with cardiovascular exercise. The strength training builds lean muscle mass, which raises your metabolic rate (helping you burn more calories when your body is at rest) and the cardio exercise is what burns the fat. It's important to understand that one part without the other part just doesn't work. You need the healthy eating combined with exercise to "get fit", be healthy, and actually STAY that way.
